Heritage Builds Bridges Catalogue
This catalogue allows you to search the project partners' archives as well as Hillingdon’s museum and photographic collections.
There are 3 different ways of searching. Click on each option to read the instructions:
Simple Search Advanced Search Expert Search
Notes on results:
Each archival collection is arranged hierarchically with different levels of description. These levels are:
* Fonds (the whole collection)
* Sub-fonds (a sub collection, usually relating to different departments as creators)
* Series (a collection of types of records i.e. minutes or correspondence)
* File (usually an individual file of papers or a volume)
* Item (the lowest level of description, one single item, e.g. a booklet, poster or letter)
If you wish to see all the archives of a person or organisation on the same screen, it is best to use Expert Search, as you will need to know the Fonds level reference.
Some documents contain large lists of named individuals (such as rate books or school registers). It is not possible to list all of the names featured in these documents so family historians may wish to consult the items themselves.
The project is ongoing. Not all of the archive collections are in the catalogue yet. If you do not find what you are looking for you may wish to contact us.
We would also welcome any comments on the catalogue or these guidelines.
